Chatbot conversation data ownership in the vendors' own terms
Updated
Chatbots and AI agents now write half of many conversations. Their makers' terms decide who owns those logs and what the maker may do with them.
Who owns a chatbot's logs
Chatbase says customers retain all rights to their submissions, and LiveChat's owner Text writes that what you submit and what the system uniquely generates from it is yours.
Anonymised copies the vendor keeps
7 of 16 chat tools keep such a right. Chatbase may use service data freely once aggregated and anonymised, and Help Scout may pool de-identified customer data with other companies' to build training datasets.
Training on your conversations
On the board Intercom's terms allow it, 2 tools offer an opt-out and Crisp rules it out unless agreed in writing. Tidio says its customers may opt out of improvement training through support.
